Ingredients

500 g (1 lb) lean lamb mince

1 medium egg, beaten

2 tbsp. ground cumin

2 tsp. ground cinnamon

2 tbsp. paprika

2 tbsp. fresh or dried dill,

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tbsp. olive oil

1 red onion, finely chopped

400 g (14 oz) tin chopped tomatoes

120 ml (5 fl oz) chicken stock

1 tbsp honey

400 g (14 oz) tin chickpeas, wash and drained

Pine nuts and fresh dill for garnish


Method


  1. In a large bowl mix the lamb mince, egg and 1 tbsp of ground cumin, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tbsp paprika and 1 tbsp of dill. Mix well.

  2. Form around 16 meatballs. Heat a heavy casserole pan with the olive oil on a medium heat, add the meatballs and cook for 10 minutes until golden. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  3. In the same pan add the onion and garlic and cook for 2-3 mins until softened. Add in the rest of the spices, the chopped tomatoes, chicken stock, honey and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  4. Return the meatballs to the pan, cover and cook for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, add the chickpeas and cook for 15 minutes more.

  5. ​Serve with pine nuts and fresh dill.
